Established in 1911, the McLean Park complex comprises an indoor stadium (the Centennial Event Centre) and an international standard outdoor sportsground and stands.

The venue’s crowd capacity consists of 3,319 in the Graeme Lowe Stand, 3,674 in the Harris Stand plus 12 Accessible, 786 in the Rodney Green Stand, 620 in the Chapman stand and 7,000 on the Embankment.

Home to the Hawke’s Bay Magpies and the Central Districts Cricket Association, these two sporting codes, at both provincial and international levels, are the main users of the facility.

The park's playing surface is mainly rye grass on a sand carpet. The wicket is based on Tongoio clay and was voted the best wicket in New Zealand by the international players in the 2008/09 playing season.

The park drains quickly and always has a good strong-rooted sole of grass which also makes it a top surface for rugby. Six light towers light the park for night games.

Other events hosted at McLean Park have included pipe band contests, displays, music concerts and marching competitions.

The 4-hectare site is located right in the heart of Napier City, just 20 minutes’ walk from the CBD.

The McLean Park complex is owned and managed by Napier City Council.
